For the Love of Animals

Stryker at the beach in Panama City

One thing I love the most: animals.  Even though I know I talk a lot about our animals, I love animals regardless.

One news story I saw on TV the other day was both amazing and broke my heart.  This woman has a goat rescue a bit further north here in Washington State.  They were "recycling" Christmas trees by giving them to the goats at this shelter.  The news thought it was a great story, and put it on television.  With awareness of this shelter well known across the state and the US, people started dropping off goats left and right, and by the truckload.  This woman, with the income of a teacher, is taking care of many of these animals who have been left behind.

Another story I saw on a local program, Evening Magazine, covered a shelter in Idaho who rescues birds.  This shelter rescued a bald eagle, who was shot, most of it's beak came clear off.  People found the eagle, and feared the worst for its survival.  Without a beak she is not able to prune himself, sufficiently hunt for food, or even drink water.  A mechanical engineer heard of this eagle, and decided to help.  With him they created a bionic beak.  An amazing story!

The third story I have heard of recently is one of a dog from here in Puyallup.  A man was caught at a WalMart stealing women's underwear.  Yes, a bizarre story, but an employee from WalMart chased the shoplifter, and was stabbed.  The shoplifter then ran into a police officer and his German Shepherd.  The shoplifter then stabbed the dog twice.  The dog is currently recovering from his injuries.

I encourage each of you to read and watch these stories (by clicking on the links provided) and if you feel in your heart, to give to them.  It's hard to hear of what humans can do to these animals, when they are either innocent or here to protect and serve.
