There might be a Hawaii trip in our future....Does anyone have any good advice or tips they could give me....Or things you wish you would've known before you took your trip?

Thanks for your input!

  1. Sounds like fun. Well, I went to Hawaii with Steve's family when we were together for only 1 year. It was really fun. Just keep in mind that stuff there tends to be really pricey. I would recommend doing your research before you guys go to Hawaii. For example, if you plan to have a very active vacation, find fun stuff that you guys will enjoy but without killing your budget. There are so many things you can do in Hawaii without going broke. We did not do much other than just hang out and go sight seeing because it was planned by his parents and I did not really had a say on where we would go since I only paid for my ticket and they pretty much cover every other expense for me. On the other hand, if you plan to have a relaxing vacay, then just search areas that you can go site seeing. Depending on which island you are going to visit the amount of locations may vary and maybe be limit per transportation. Hope you guys have fun and can't wait to see all your pictures.

  2. Depends on what island you are going to. I live on Oahu, which is totally saturated with Military people-- lots of discounts and some discrimination. We live on Schofield -- close to North Shore. You can stay at the Schofield Inn for cheap, but you might want to rent a car so you can travel to Waikiki. Waikiki is pricey, but fun. Bars, nightlife and lots lots tourists. Oahu overall is very small, like the size of Seattle. You can easily drive around the entire island in 1/2 day. There is hiking, beaches-crowded ones and peaceful ones & nightlife. Let me know if I can answer any questions you may have, I was a travel agent a long time ago. Don't worry, I wont charge you, lol.

  5. Well, I live on Oahu too. =) We're stationed at Schofield but we live just north of it...really close to North Shore. There's a hotel near Waikiki that's specifically for military, so you might want to hit up your MWR and ask if they can get you booked on a trip. We're probably biased because we live up at North Shore, but so far I haven't found a North Shore beach I didn't like!

  6. We stayed at a condo on Maui which I liked a lot better than a hotel. We also splurged on a helicopter tour of the island.

  9. We stayed on Oahu when we went to Hawaii, but we took a day trip to the big island to see the Volcano National Park. It was a last minute decision - not something we planned for the trip but it was amazing to go there! I have no idea if the prices have changed, but it only cost us $100 for both of us to fly there and back for the day. If you like stuff like that I would definitely try to take a trip out there. I am soooo glad we made the decision to do so. Just a warning though, its COLD on the big island! We had no idea, so we showed up in shorts and t shirts and ended up buying XXL fleece jackets (I'm a small and husband is a medium) from some random hardware store on the way to the volcano because we were THAT cold. We were told that this apparently happens all the time and they make a good living selling sweatshirts and fleece jackets to tourists :-). We look ridiculous in our pictures because we're both literally swimming in giant purple jackets, so if you go, bring some warm clothes!! I hope you have a fun trip!

  10. Oh I love HAWAII!! Fun, well if you want to go to Maui ask me anything...I would love to help you plan things and tell you were to go and not too. I think Maui is the best but that is my opinion, I have been about 30 times so I know the Island pretty well. I think Bob & I may be going to Hawaii in September but not sure...maybe the big island this time. When are you guys thinking?
